The world of creative crime writing is great, growing, and sometimes a little odd.  Find out more.

The Thistle and the Rose:

The extraordinary life of Margaret Tudor

I am going to interview Tudor historian and writer Linda Porter about her new book on 10 June 2025, as part of York’s Festival of Ideas.   Porter will reveal the story of this complex (and not always likeable) woman who had the true Tudor attributes of self-expression and a flair for the dramatic.

Two Interviews

I interviewed two of my favourite authors for the York Literature Festival 2025:  Sophie Hannah and Susie Dent.

Sophie Hannah discussed her latest thriller as well as her work writing new Hercule Poirot novels

Susie Dent talked about writing, words, puzzles, and her debut novel Guilty by Definition, which I think is my favourite book of the year.

This thrills me to my fingertips

I have always wanted to be a member of the CWA, and I’m very proud that I can finally be part of it.  Now all I need is one of those daggers….

All crime all the time

This great independent bookstore is now stocking the Catrin Surovell series (all signed!)

Great books, great people

This independent bookstore helps us sell books at the Literature Festival.  They are also supporting this new author, because they’re not only clever and enterprising but really quite wonderful.
